Scultping

Sculpture is a branch of the visual arts that operates in three dimensions. Traditional sculpture can be broken down into carving (the removal of material) or modelling (the addition of material, as in clay), in stone, metal, ceramics, wood and other materials. In most modern sculpture there has been an almost complete freedom of materials and process allowing almost any object to become a form of sculpture. A wide variety of materials may be worked by removal such as carving, assembled by welding or modelling, or molded, or cast. We carry sets of ceramic and sculpture tools as well as individual tools for your specific sculpture carving needs. As for the clay itself we carry several different products ranging from a simple air dry Das Clay to a hard carving Roma Plastilina.

Sculpture House
Sculpture House’s self harding clay comes in a 25lb bundle and is air-hardening water-based clay that works like Plastilina, an oil-based clay. Suitable for modeling over an armature, this clay can also be worked on its own. This natural, water-based direct modeling clay air-dries hard, is durable, and has minimal shrinkage. There is no need for kiln firing, (oven) baking, or casting. Since Claystone is a self-hardening clay, it is wise to keep it moist while sculpting. Once completely dry, the piece can be sealed and painted, stained and even finished with a patina. This clay comes in several different colors and is perfect for multiple projects and large sculptures.
Roma Plastilina

Roma Plastilina No. 3 is the preferred choice among those sculptors modeling smaller pieces such as bas-reliefs, doll heads and miniature figures. In addition its firmness allows the artist to sculpt in greater detail as well as using it for design mock-ups. As with the other ROMA Plastilina clays, since ROMA Plastilina No. 3 is not made with water, it will not harden permanently and is not adversely affected by heat. The clay is packaged in a 2lb wax paper to protect the moisture

Super Sculpey
Super Sculpey is a very unique polymer clay, loved by artists, dollmakers and animation studios around the world. With a ceramic-like feel, Super Sculpey is available in a semi-translucent beige that, once baked, captures the glow of real skin. It can also be mixed with Premo or Sculpey III to change the color. As with all of our polymer clays, it is easy to condition right out of the package and stays soft until you bake it. Super Sculpey features fine tooling and detailing characteristics, and does not “fill in” after tooling.
